CVF Platform Designer BMT Supports Build Decision
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has today approved the programme to build two new CVF aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy. This represents a big step for Bath-based naval design and engineering company Defence Services Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, which produced the original, winning innovative platform design. More than 50 BMT designers are presently engaged in directing and performing ongoing detailed ship design work within the Aircraft Carrier Alliance project team.
"BMT is proud to see the CVF project pass through this pivotal stage of its development. The success of our platform design highlights our unique combination of skills and capabilities, which encompass the maritime sector sovereign capabilities required to design complex warships, auxiliaries and submarines, from concept to point of build. We have much to offer during this new phase in the areas of integration, assurance, test, acceptance and future support of this new naval platform", said Roger Cooper, Managing Director of BMT Defence Services Ltd.
With a ship design heritage stretching back over most of the last century, BMT also provided the winning design for the Batch 2 Trafalgar-class submarine (forerunner of Astute). Additionally, it has provided specialist naval design advice in design change management and support issues to the MoD covering most of its in-service fleet of ships and submarines.
